Registered Agent

Corporations, limited liability companies and certain other types of entities doing business in Virginia are required by the Virginia Code to have a both a registered office address and a Registered Agent in Virginia listed with the State Corporation Commission (SCC).  We provide registered agent services and general legal representation for all types of businesses.

If you are not familiar with the term, a Registered Agent is a person or entity appointed to act as an entity’s official representative in Virginia.  An officer or director of the company may serve as Registered Agent, or a member of the Virginia State Bar may serve in that capacity.

The Registered Agent receives all official correspondence from the SCC and receives most legal process served on the company, such as lawsuits, orders or demands.  If the company is sued the Registered Agent normally receives the law suit first.
